Iridology is the study of the Iris of the eye, (the coloured sector), to determine information about the bodily genetic strengths and weaknesses, levels of inflammation and toxaemia, efficiency of the elimination systems and organs, and the causes of symptoms and disease.
The Iris, which is connected to the brain via the hypothalamus, acts like a control panel, giving readouts on conditions in various parts of the body. The iris was part of the brain in the embryonic stages of development in the womb, and extends out from the brain on the Iris Stalk. Thousands of nerve endings make up the Iris.
Iridology complements all therapeutic sciences because it provides the vital information needed in order to establish the root cause of ailments, thus revealing the appropriate treatments required. Hippocrates and Philostratus used Iridology. lridology was taught at the Medical School of Salerno and even the Chaldeans of Babylonia, in 1000 BC left records of Iris markings, with the relevant Anatomical areas painted onto stone slabs.
In the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries writings and works on Iris markings and their meanings were recorded, largely by medical practitioners. One of the earliest was Dr. Ignatz von Peczely, a Hungarian doctor. When he was 11 years old, he accidentally broke the leg of an owl when it instinctively fought against being captured. The boy noticed a black mark appearing in the owl's iris just after the injury. As von Peczely nursed the owl back to health, and in the following years, be noticed the mark, which appeared upon injury, changing in form and shading.
Different colours and their placement in the iris reflect changes in the body's capacity to deal with the loadings a person places on it. White sign can mean inflammation, pain, acid build up. The body is having to raise it's level of activity in the particular area where it's found. Moving from the general iris colour to a greater state of 'white hot' activity. Over a period of time if the body does not get a rest or the appropriate fuel, it will begin to get 'tired'. The white iris sign will become yellow. The person has had to make changes to accommodate their ill health in the particular yellow area reflected in the iris. If there are still no positive changes to help the body get on track the problem will become more and more sluggish and tired which will be reflected in the iris by darker shades of tan and brown tones. Your eye colour doesn't just happen; it's a reflection of your general state of health.
Not only is iridology a very accurate and non-invasive way of discovering where a person's health problem originate, it is such a sensitive tool it can pick up problems in the system long before serious ill health arises, even before a person experiences symptoms. During a consultation a Naturopath takes time to explain the findings of an Iris analysis to the person seeking help, so they can better understand why their particular health problem has arisen and where other potentially weak areas lie. Skin disorder may not so much be a problem with skin function, but other internal organs such as the liver or kidneys. The iris can pin point to where ill health is really based. Through Iridology a Naturopath can tailor treatment to suit the needs of each individual. If ten people came for Naturopathic treatment of asthma for example, different combinations of medicines would be given for each individual for when we look at asthma using iridology as a guide there are as many asthmas as people with asthma. Every person with asthma or any other 'named' health problem has a different life style, a different genetic background and a different work and home environment.
In the last 20 years in the USA a man called Denny Johnson has developed a new way of reading signs in the iris called Rayid. This system focuses on what the markings mean in terms of the emotional life of the person. Deep genetic and past traumas can be revealed. More importantly a persons gifts in communication and likely career paths can be ascertained. A particular marking indicating emotional issues can affect the function of an organ so there is a certain overlap in the different systems. Compatibility and difficulties in relationships are also revealed. Clive is a registered teacher of this system and has found it to be one the most useful diagnostic tools at his disposal.
Today, Iridology is part of the curriculum in the medical schools in Moscow, the Bobigy Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris Nord, and various Egyptian and Greek medical schools.
